Hezekiah Fleck Sims strives towards artistic practice as a radical, spiritual practice of movement and world-building, rooted in a deep sense of love and responsibility and a belief in the interconnectedness of all things. He hopes for his work to stimulate thought and imagination, to engage alternate ways of thinking or seeing, to emerge from open observation and listening. Media he works in include digital and analog filmmaking and photography, dance, and music composition. His process is iterative, playful, and exploratory, while drawing on his classical training in ballet and music for discipline and a foundation in the immediacy and physicality of those forms, which leads to a tactile and embodied approach. In film, he aims to engage on both an intellectual and an emotional level, with a mix of drama, humor, stylization, and the absurd. His filmic style is rooted in dance/movement, and shares an observational character with his still photography, careful to portray subjects with respect. His films are heavily shaped in postproduction, through montage, superimposition of images, and experimental animation.
